Introducing our organisers

20th August 2014

I first entered the tournament at David Lloyd back in 2011. The day was such an amazing success and the club was absolutely buzzing with excitement all weekend. I was astonished by the quality of some the players and how many countries were represented. I had a tremendous time but was convincingly trounced because I was not at all prepared for the table tennis and badminton rounds.

I knew straight away that this was an event that I wanted to be associated with and having co-sponsored for the last couple of years, Easystore is now the sole sponsor and is committed to taking the tournament to the next level of international ranking and as a regular fixture on the world-tour circuit.

The underlying principle behind the tournament is to encourage people to participate and so anyone could enter whether they had any experience or not. We want the event to be fun so, whilst it is great to watch the top-ranked players all performing at a phenomenal level, we also want people just to have a go!

For the past four years I have had the pleasure of being the tournament organiser for The Wales Racketlon. I have spent the last 30 years coaching and have previous experience as a full time squash coach, Director of Squash in Guernsey and Squash Development Officer. I have a great team of helpers for the Racketlon made up of family and friends without whom, the event would not run as smoothly as it does.

The first event that ran in Cardiff had fewer Welsh participants than it should have, partly due to lack of promotion. When speaking to a lot of friends I realised that a huge number of people would have entered if they had known about the tournament. I got involved to make sure the tournament was given the promotion it deserves and the following year the tournament was sold out.

My aim for the future is to increase the Welsh participants in the competition and to up the number of juniors and women who take part. Four years on it’s amazing to see how far the tournament has come and I would like to thank all the sponsor who make this amazing event possible.
